Steal My Idea – Street Cool Running Gear

The Idea: Lifestyle Running Gear

You would never wear your running gear unless you are running, but skateboarders, basketball players, skiers/snowboarders and surfers have translated their gear from simply functional to a cool lifestyle. The clothing they wear crosses between sport wear and causal street gear.

There is no reason this can’t be true of running as well – a cool brand just needs to take the sport in that direction. With the closest exception being Puma (Usain Bolt is pretty cool), you would be hard pressed to find anything that is not black or black plus a solid color, usually neon. Practical, but not cool. Definitely not cool.

Designer meet runner, runner meet designer. You don’t know it yet, but your future relationship will be profitable.

Back story/Where the idea came from

As I have grown older (and wiser?), I have switched my exercise habits to include more running. One problem. Running sucks. So the transition from competitive team sports to exercise was not easy for me. As I dragged myself kicking and screaming into the world of a habitual runner, I broke down and started buying running clothes to ease the pain and make myself more comfortable in my misery.

Running eventually got a little easier and believe it or not, the clothing actually did help. But guess what, I look terrible doing it. I would only ever wear my running gear during an actual run. Wearing it at any other time would not be cool and would make people wonder where my yoga mat was. There should be something cooler. There needs to be.

How to Get The Ball Rolling

  1. Start with one item of a runners essentials and make it cool
    • Teeshirts
    • Shorts
    • Windbreakers
    • Pants
  2. Find a celebrity and/or cool people and get them to start wearing it
  3. Sell Sell Sell
  4. So easy and simple a caveman or women could do it :)

Disclaimer: If you read this, please steal it. Good ideas are meant to make it into the world.
